Delta TACC Project for Low Carbon and Climate Resilient Development
Focus: Adaptation, Mitigation
Sector(s): Adaptation / Resilience / Disaster risk reduction, Carbon reduction / Low-carbon transition
As a delta with many tributaries, and with low-lying coastal communities that are crisscrossed by waterways, Delta State is highly susceptible to the impacts of climate change. In 2010, Delta State therefore initiated the Territorial Approach to Climate Change (TACC) Programme in collaboration with the UNDP. It now intends to upscale the initial first-of-their-kind quick win projects, including the construction of biogas digesters, the installation of eco-stoves and biosand water filters, the provision of solar boreholes, and the establishment of Farmers Field Schools (FFS) to enhance farmers’ adaptation to climate change impacts. Around 400 rural communities and 100 towns will benefit from the project.
