Sorocaba Cidade Sustentável

In line with its Municipal Policy on Climate Change, Sorocaba has developed an integrated project on adaptation and mitigation. The project will:

• further develop the city’s bike sharing scheme to encourage the use of non-motorized transport;
• install LED street lighting in the vicinity of schools to provide greater security;
• restore reservoirs and other bodies of water to guarantee the supply of clean water to citizens; and
• plant 100,000 trees each year between 2015 and 2020 in recreational areas such as parks and squares, and on public roads.

Together these projects will reduce emissions, mitigate the urban heat island effect and create a healthier more livable city.
