Sustainable Village
Focus: Adaptation
Sector(s): Adaptation / Resilience / Disaster risk reduction, Natural resource management
The Vila Audi-União, an illegally occupied area in Curitiba, is affected by poverty and high unemployment. The 30,000 residents also face the constant threat of flooding due to the proximity of the Iguaçu River. Through the “Sustainable Village” project, Vila Audi-União will receive more resilient housing, rainwater tanks to minimize flooding, and a wide range of other innovative solutions. Alongside resilience actions, the city will implement a range of sustainability projects, including solar power plants and cycling infrastructure, in consultation with NGOs, churches and residents’ associations. The project will transform the area into a model of sustainability and resilience.
