Implementing the Hub and Compact approach through the Durban Adaptation Charter

Focus: Adaptation
Sector(s): Adaptation / Resilience / Disaster risk reduction

To fast track local adaptation action the Durban Adaptation Charter (DAC) has developed the Hub and Compact approach.  The approach stemmed from engagement with the International City/County Management Association’s CityLinks program, which is supported by USAID funding. Through CityLinks, three DAC ‘Regional Hubs’ have been identified. These are cities that are already advanced in their adaptation work, and who share similar climate change challenges. A number of Hub-to-Hub exchange visits have been completed, benefitting local government officials through peer-to-peer learning. The approach provides the opportunity for a coordinated response between members and for collaborative action on climate change issues that cross local political boundaries.
